John,
In December, we won our lawsuit to bar Donald Trump from the ballot in Colorado. Tomorrow, we go to the Supreme Court to defend our win.
This is the biggest fight CREW has ever taken on – and we can’t do it alone. We want to make sure that we have supporters across the country who are willing to stand up and say that Trump needs to be disqualified from the ballot.
So we have a few requests for you before we argue before the United States Supreme Court tomorrow:
- Forward this email to a few of your friends and family members. We want everyone to hear about, and understand, our case. We have more information below about our case – so forward this email to make sure your friends, family, coworkers, anyone see it!
- Click here to share your support for our lawsuit on Twitter.
- Click here to share your support for our lawsuit on Facebook.
- Watch and share our NEW video about the trial in Colorado.
- Join our Reddit AMA at noon ET today to learn more about the case we’re bringing to the Supreme Court.
- Click here if you want to make a donation to support our work to hold Donald Trump accountable to the law.
We want to show that we have the momentum on our side. So share this email, share on social media, and spread the word. Let’s show Trump that people across the country want to see him removed from the ballot for inciting an insurrection.
Thank you, John. We couldn’t do this work without you,
CREW
CREW Sued to Keep Donald Trump Off the Ballot
Under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, Trump is constitutionally disqualified from holding office because of his efforts to keep himself in power after losing the 2020 election and his incitement of the insurrection on January 6th, 2021.
So in September 2023, we sued in Colorado to keep Donald Trump off the ballot. We sued because the law is clear and Trump’s conduct blatantly violated both the letter of the law and the intent of the framers of the 14th Amendment.
The 14th Amendment says that anyone who swore an oath to the Constitution and then engaged in insurrection is disqualified from office. That's the law of the land.
We are convinced that if Trump is not barred from holding office, he could use the same insurrectionist playbook again, and he could succeed. If we don’t use this key constitutional protection now, it could disappear as an option.
In November, the judge in our lawsuit seeking to bar Donald Trump from the ballot in Colorado ruled that Trump incited the January 6th insurrection. That is the first time a judge has ever found that a president engaged in insurrection — which is huge.
Unfortunately, she stopped short of disqualifying Trump from the ballot. So we appealed that aspect of her ruling.
And in December, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled in our favor and barred Donald Trump from the Colorado ballot!
But of course, Donald Trump continues to believe he’s above the law, and refuses to face accountability. So he appealed the ruling, and now, we’re going to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Tomorrow, February 8th, we are going up against a former president who is not going to accept his disqualification easily. We hope you can support us as we fight to hold Trump accountable.
