Let’s get this straight.

Everyone agrees the immigration system is broken. It’s why Joe Biden proposed comprehensive immigration reform on his first day in office.

In contrast, Republicans have spent their time going on Fox News to fear-monger. But their actions belie their TV appearances: MAGA Republicans supported a budget that would cut 2,000 Customs and Border Patrol agents, while rejecting the President’s budget proposals to fund fixes to the border.

The President has kept at it. At his instruction, a bipartisan group of Senators worked together for months on a national security bill that would make our border more orderly, humane, and secure.

And it failed, all because Donald Trump says it should. Trump spent the last 24 hours calling around, pressuring his MAGA lackeys to kill this bill. It’s all because he thinks solving this problem helps the President, and doing nothing hurts him.

He’s betting the American people won’t see through it. He’s betting that you’re too complacent to do anything about it.
