Late last year the U.S. House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed As You Sow for alleged “antitrust” violations. The committee claims that asking a company to “decarbonize and reduce emissions” may have “harmful effects on Americans’ freedom.” That’s madness!

At As You Sow we believe that assessing and reducing carbon emissions is critical for healthy communities and businesses to thrive. In 2023 the U.S. had 28 climate-related disasters costing $92.9 billion. Climate-induced superstorms and wildfires are wiping out homes and businesses and making insurance unaffordable. Extreme heat, floods, and droughts are reducing wheat, sugar, coffee, cacao, and cotton harvest yields, leading to pressure on company supply chains and increased prices hitting the pocketbooks of all Americans.

We believe this so strongly, we sent our president and chief counsel, Danielle Fugere, to D.C. to answer the committee’s questions in person, under oath – for nearly eight hours.

It is clear beyond all doubt the committee’s “investigation” is politically motivated and intended to distract us from our core mission.

We will not be deterred. We’re engaging with hundreds of companies and have already filed 76 shareholder resolutions to be voted in 2024, including on climate targets with the major banks, Exxon, Chevron, and GE, and new biodiversity resolutions at GM, Ford, and Tesla.

Will you help? < [link removed] >

We represent shareholders and stakeholders. We engage with companies to address the barriers to sustainable business practices. We’re really good at it. We’ve been successfully changing companies for good for over 30 years. We bring everything we have to keep climate progress going forward.

Will you stand with us? < [link removed] > Together, we can build the sustainable future we want to see.

Please reach out if you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to further engage with As You Sow. I’m always happy to speak directly with you about what’s going on.
