Happy Black History Month!

As we kick off the month, I wanted to take a moment to uplift and celebrate some of the Black trailblazers who have changed history, shaped our country, and opened the door for the opportunities we have today. 

I recognize that I’m standing on the shoulders of generations of Black women who have paved the way. Oregon women like Avel Gordly, Margaret Carter, Jackie Winters, and countless others have brought us closer to a government that mirrors the diverse tapestry of America.

Their courage to fight for change in their communities and the halls of Congress has inspired a new generation – myself included – to pick up the torch and champion the crucial issues impacting our community. 

This Black History Month, I invite you to join me in reflecting on the remarkable contributions of Black Americans to our country. And while we celebrate, we should all consider how we can work together to continue their remarkable legacies.
