It's a hard reality that, in America in 2024, MoveOn is under attack for
speaking truth to power and organizing to stop Donald Trump from plunging
our country into authoritarianism.
No Labels and now Trump's former Attorney General Bill Barr are calling on
the Justice Department to investigate MoveOn for criminal harassment,
extortion, and "unlawful conspiracy" under RICO—the law often used to
prosecute organized crime—for criticizing No Labels and exposing their
plans that would install Trump in the White House.^1,2
Core to our democracy are the First Amendment rights of free speech and
assembly. Attempting to weaponize the government to criminally investigate
MoveOn and other pro-democracy organizations in order to gag us is the
latest evidence of the terrifying state of our democracy.
Perhaps we should not be surprised, given that right-wing billionaires
like Harlan Crow—the benefactor of Clarence Thomas's luxury lifestyle—and
Rupert Murdoch are among many funding No Labels.^3,4
But one thing is clear: We cannot—and will not—back down. We are fighting
for the soul of our country, and we won't stop speaking the truth and
organizing to save our democracy.

blindsided by these outrageous allegations, and the potential legal costs
could add up very fast and in an election year where we're all-in to
defeat Trump and his authoritarian plans before it's too late.

No Labels is a wolf in sheep's clothing. They disguise themselves as a
group of "moderates," but their dark-money funders include some of the
most destructive right-wing billionaires in America.^5 And their plans,
when you look at the details, would have the clear impact of siphoning
votes away from President Biden and tipping the election to Trump.^6
And, now, No Labels is becoming even more shadowy—beyond refusing to
disclose all of their donors and having complaints filed against them on
campaign finance and IRS law for political parties.^7 They've appeared to
drop plans for holding a convention or any kind of democratic process to
pick their presidential ticket, and instead their ticket will be
hand-picked by CEO Nancy Jacobson and her team.^8
Let's be clear: The threat No Labels poses to our democracy is very real.
The group is already on the ballot in 14 states and is aiming to get on
the ballot in 13 additional states—many of them battleground states that
President Biden won narrowly in 2020.^9 And they've committed an
eye-popping $70 million to see their plans through.^10
MoveOn will not be gagged. Far from it. MoveOn has and will continue to do
everything we can to stop No Labels, as well as to fight their baseless
and politically motivated allegations against us and help stop our country
from teetering into fascism.
