Hi John,

As the Coronavirus pandemic spreads across the globe, and impacts all of us in a variety of ways, it becomes even more important to seek out glimmers of light and celebrate the positive news stories that come through.

With that in mind, we wanted to let you know about an important and encouraging milestone reached by the Divest Parliament campaign. Last week, the trustees of the MP Pension Fund released their annual report, showing that the fund’s investment in renewables has gone up significantly, while its fossil fuel investments dropped sharply.

Watch this video about the milestone reached by this campaign and share the positive news with your friends and communities.

This report shows approximately £36 million of new investments in renewables and significantly reduced investment in fossil fuel companies. Investment in BP, for example was down by 62%.

This is a positive step in the right direction and shows that our collective pressure is starting work. We would like to say thank you to each and every one of you who have written to your MP, met with your MP, shared posts about the campaign on social media or engaged with it in any other way.

But our work is not yet done. The fund remains invested in fossil fuels and is currently nowhere near completely divested from this polluting industry.

For now, the focus of both politicians and the public is on tackling the Coronavirus pandemic, and rightly so. But when the time is right, we will increase our efforts in order to make sure no MP supports fossil fuel investments as we ramp up pressure ahead of COP26 in November.

Help us celebrate this news and increase the pressure on MPs to go even further, by watching and sharing this video!

Take care of yourselves and those around you.

In solidarity,

Tytus - on behalf the Divest Parliament Team
