John,
Colorado Springs is changing—and like the rest of Colorado, the people there are turning away from the chaos, division, and vitriol of today's Republican Party.
You may recall that last year, a political newcomer named Yemi Mobolade won the race for Colorado Springs mayor. He was the first Black person elected as mayor, and is an immigrant who ran as a progressive Independent, upsetting a Republican former Secretary of State.
And now that Congressman Doug Lamborn is retiring at the end of this term, the exemplars of the Colorado Republican Party are coming out in force to win the GOP primary in June:
*Jeff "Crank," a radio talk show host who indeed lives up to the name: he wants to eliminate the IRS and Department of Education.
*Corey Parella: a "performer" who doesn't live in the district and who wrote in a FB post announcing his run that “The Lord has assured me, ‘You will be on the Primary ballot.’” (Time will tell, I guess...)
*And last but not least, Dave Williams, the current Chair of the State GOP. Williams lost to Lamborn in the primary two years ago; he sued, unsuccessfully, to have “Let’s Go Brandon” printed as his nickname on the ballot and tried to launch a criminal investigation of Lamborn.
