Türkiye. Devastation and destruction in Hatay in aftermath of earthquakes

Dear John,

On 6 February, 2023, the first of two massive earthquakes hit south-eastern Türkiye and northern Syria. More than 55,000 people lost their lives, while twice as many were left injured. Countless homes were destroyed.

Thanks to support from people like you, we were able to distribute essential items like thermal blankets, mattresses, tents, sleeping mats, kitchen sets and food packs. These items are crucial for families as temperatures drop and they face the harshest winter months.

But the situation in Türkiye and north-west Syria is still desperate. In north-west Syria two-thirds of the population have already been displaced – sometimes multiple times – due to the long-running conflict.

Thousands of families lost everything in the earthquakes.

Your generous donation of $50 can provide a month of cash assistance to a family to help them buy what they need the most.

A year on, and people still need basic assistance, such as proper shelter, sanitation and access to healthcare. UNHCR teams are on the ground supporting families through the coldest winter months and beyond. We cannot abandon people now. Support us today to help people recover from this disaster?

Thank you. Your support will help UNHCR continue to protect refugees and displaced people.

With heartfelt gratitude,
