$500 billion stimulus package and no oversight?
No. Sorry. Never going to happen.

At his regular coronavirus press briefing, when asked about a proposed fund that Treasury could distribute without any transparency, President Trump said:

"Deals will be made... We are talking to some of the greatest people in the history of Wall Street, where when they do a deal we'll have stock for America, we'll take back stock for the United States. Most importantly, we will keep those companies healthy... I will be the oversight. I'll be the oversight. We are gonna make good deals, we make good deals."

American Oversight has been leading investigations into the government's inadequate response to the coronavirus crisis.
We cannot forget that only 10 days before suggesting he should "be the oversight" for a half-trillion dollar stimulus, Trump downplayed the outbreak and said, "I don't take responsibility at all." While the president was denying responsibility for the failure to administer tests and prevent a disaster, American Oversight submitted dozens of FOIA requests seeking White House communications with HHS leadership, the CDC, DHS, and the Federal Reserve among others.
We also obtained and posted over 11,000 pages of calendars and other public records from CDC Director Robert Redfield. While Redfield’s calendars show briefings and presentations about the U.S.’s preparedness for a global pandemic, the actions of the White House and other top Trump administration officials reflected far less concern.

"Donald Trump cannot be trusted with a blank check. At no point during this crisis has the president demonstrated, through act or honesty, that he has what it takes to put the public interest above his own efforts to juice headlines and the stock market in his favor. Putting Donald Trump in charge of oversight is like hiring Jesse James for stagecoach security." - Executive Director, Austin Evers
Our staff has been vigilantly fighting for transparency and accountability from the administration. We will not concede oversight while hospital staff are crowdsourcing supplies and American workers are facing indefinite unemployment.

You can help provide necessary oversight. If you are able, please consider
