The Civil Rights Movement didn’t just create a better country for Black Americans. It opened doors for every person of color in America, those whose roots go back centuries and those newly arrived. It set us on the path to be a composite nation – a nation of nations – that Frederick Douglass once envisioned, where people from every background could come together to write the American story.
We’ve made phenomenal strides through centuries of struggle, yet there is still so much more we must do. I believe we will do it, thanks to people like you who continue to show up, volunteer, and work for a more just and equitable future. Thank you for all you do.
