Dear Young Center supporter,
On Sunday night, Senate leaders released the text of a funding bill laden with anti-immigrant measures that would endanger asylum seekers and leave young adults with DACA in permanent limbo. You can read our press statement here. [[link removed]]
If passed, the bill would:
*
Seal
the
border
to
people
seeking
asylum
when
numbers
are
determined
to
be
too
high,
thereby
forcing
untold
numbers
of
people
seeking
safety
back
to
danger
or
trapping
them
in
untenable
conditions
in
Mexico,
similar
to
the
Trump-era
Title
42
policy.

*
Heighten
screening
standards
for
people
seeking
asylum
and
speed
up
processing
while
offering
no
access
to
immigration
judges
or
appeals
when
claims
are
denied.
*
Expand
funding
for
immigration
detention
to
levels
even
higher
than
those
under
the
Trump
administration.
*
Put
the
border
wall
back
under
construction.
*
Abandon
a
path
to
permanent
protection
for
DACA
recipients
and
many
other
immigrants
who
have
long
lived
in
our
communities.
There's no two ways about it, Dear Young Center supporter. The proposed funding bill is one of the worst anti-immigrant proposals we've seen in years and would leave t housands of families and children seeking safety unprotected and in danger.
But there's still a chance to make things right. We can still contact our Congressional representatives and tell them we want to save the right to seek asylum. Click on the link below and follow the steps to have your voice heard.
