Texans need solutions at the border. Our border communities are overwhelmed. We need action to give them the resources they need. This weekend, Senate Democrats and Republicans came together to introduce a bipartisan national security bill that includes important immigration reforms. It will secure our border, reform our asylum and visa systems and funnel resources to the border to address the migrant surge.

The bipartisan Senate agreement gives us a real chance to fix our broken immigration system. The deal will limit the number of illegal entries. It makes the asylum system more efficient, while treating people fairly and with dignity. The bipartisan agreement includes more resources for the border including more border patrol agents, asylum judges, and state-of-the-art screening machines.

Additionally, this agreement finally unlocks resources paramount for U.S. national security and global stability. This includes assistance for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan as well as humanitarian aid for Gaza and the West Bank. This bipartisan agreement is reflective of our values as a nation.

I know how important this issue is to Texans, who know we can secure our border in a way that is in line with our values as Americans. This bipartisan bill not only preserves pathways to legal immigration, but makes the process fairer and faster.

For too long, politicians have prioritized political stunts and talking points over real results. There is more to do, including finally securing a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, but this is a good step. Let’s get it done for the American people.
