John,
The New York Times is widely regarded as one of the most respected newspapers in America. So it’s fair to wonder, are they on the verge of making the same mistakes covering Donald Trump in 2024 as they did in 2016 and 2020?
Well, read some of their recent headlines for yourself, John:
An article outlining how Trump can use his many criminal trials to his advantage, a breaking news update on a childish name Trump calls one of his opponents, and a fluff piece about Trump’s surge with Republican college graduates… 🙄
John, let’s be clear: The New York Times has to cover Trump. He’s all but locked up the Republican nomination.
But there is a difference between covering Trump truthfully and normalizing him. The truth is that Trump is an aspiring dictator facing 92 criminal charges and promising revenge on his political rivals if he wins re-election. He’s lawless, dangerous, and anti-democratic.
At COURIER, we believe the New York Times and other mainstream media outlets have to speak that truth to their massive audiences. It’s not enough to rely on an outdated “both sides” model of coverage that prioritizes profits and the “horse race” over what’s right for our democracy.
Now, compare our headline coverage of Trump:
It’s clear, John, that we’re unafraid to tell the truth about Donald Trump and the danger his campaign represents to American democracy. Our innovative model takes that fearless journalism and publishes it in the online spaces where right-wing propaganda thrives.
