Hi John,
Hi! My name is Cleven Brown, and I have recently joined the Columbus Stand-Up team as an intern. Though I am quite new, I was asked to reach out to everyone who has been a part of the CSU team over the years and share my experience so far
The first event we put on during my time with Stand Up was the Franklin County Prosecutor Candidate Forum. The entire experience was so much more than I expected. We attracted nearly 200 people including several judges and sitting members of the Columbus City Council.
As we take a moment to celebrate what we accomplished in terms of turnout, I also want to reflect on the impact of our and other community-led efforts. Last week, the Democratic party decided not to endorse any of the candidates running in the primary! This is a huge accomplishment, and our forum showed the party that the three candidates are qualified and the voters need to decide. We will continue engaging with the prosector’s race until the primary election on March 19, 2024.
We also wanted to let you know about a couple of new initiatives. First, we are beginning to lay the groundwork for our next round of community-building initiatives. We are kicking off our next phase of engagement opportunities with our Can’t Trump my Black Card: Spades and Speakeasy event series. Not only will this be a fun time, but it will also serve as an opportunity to learn about what Stand Up is planning for this spring, summer, and beyond. We are also in the early planning stages for our Listen. Lead. Share. and Serve community conversation series.
I am very excited to be a part of this team that you helped create! I was blown away by our ability to work together and overcome all of the challenges that came up during the planning of the Candidate forum. I sincerely thank everyone who helped build the early success that Columbus Stand Up now enjoys. So here's to more accomplishments, continuous improvement, and collective efforts that promise to propel us all to new heights!
Thank you for joining us!
Morgan
