John,
When I was a professor in the Chemistry Department at Stony Brook University, I’d host regular office hours for my students. I always enjoyed the chance to talk candidly with my students about their studies and future goals.
In the spirit of those moments, we’re introducing a new series where I’ll share my position on the issues, and I invite you to email me back to discuss further. This week, I’ve been thinking about the economy, so that’s the focus of our first Office Hours with Nancy. Let’s get into it!
Some politicians talk about our economy as a binary choice between innovation and worker’s rights and benefits.
The truth is we can’t have one without the other. I know this personally as a union member and the daughter of small business owners.
Most small business owners have the same concerns as workers : Can we pay rent this month? Will we still be able to put food on the table? Can we continue to grow and sustain our business?
Building an economy that supports both small business owners and workers is at the top of my list of priorities when I get to Congress.
For small business owners, the federal government should cut red tape and make sure they have access to resources to grow and prosper in their communities.
For workers, the government should level the playing field for unions, guaranteeing livable wages and affordable healthcare for all.
For businesses and workers, we need to stop big corporations from price gouging, protect our supply chains, and build more housing so our economy is more affordable for everybody.
My team and I are on the ground in NY-01, listening to the community’s needs, and affordability is a concern across the board. We are working hard to flip this seat, so that our district’s workers and small business owners have a representative in Congress who will fight for everyone’s needs.
I am dedicated to building a future that leaves no one behind. If you’re with me, it’d mean a lot to have your support today.
For our future,
Nancy
P.S. I would love to hear from you on the economy. Feel free to reply directly to this email or write to us at [email protected] [[email protected]] to share your thoughts on our economy, whether in NY-01 or nationally.
