There are times when the federal government should act. This is one of them.
We find ourselves in the midst of a public health crisis as millions of people in more than 120 countries have been gripped by the Coronavirus outbreak. Here in the United States there have been tens of thousands confirmed cases and the number of deaths is in the hundreds and sure to rise. Our healthcare system is the best in the world because we have been able to incentivize innovation and guard against the temptations of socialized medicine. We will need to take advantage of this strength like never before.
At the same time we now also face an economic crisis, and through no fault of their own millions of hard-working families all across our great country have had their lives turned upside down. Businesses are being forced to close, thousands of laid-off workers are flooding unemployment rolls, and further complicating things, our kids are having to stay home from school.
In moments of crisis the strength and ingenuity of the American spirit and our people are on full display. There have been local initiatives to help seniors get groceries, and there have been larger-scale efforts to help get needed supplies to hospitals and healthcare facilities. The Trump Administration has worked with federal, state, and local officials to ramp up testing and create responsible guidelines that are designed to help stem the outbreak so that we can eventually move beyond the immediate crisis and work toward our recovering our health and economy.
Unfortunately, the radical leadership of the hyper-partisan Left, led by Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have decided that instead of stepping up to the challenge in a time of crisis, they would rather play politics and gamble the lives and livelihoods of working families all across America for the sake of electoral politics. This is dangerous and irresponsible.
Pelosi, Schumer and their allies are simply prioritizing their dreams of a socialist America above the common good. Refusing to even take up a Senate bill that offers relief to employees, employers and small businesses is shameful. As you read this, people continue to be laid off and are feeling the pinch.
The Trump Administration has put politics aside, working with Congressional leaders as well as Democrat and Republican Governors nationwide, for which President Trump has earned praise from many Governors on both sides of the aisle.
Many of the largest companies in the United States have stepped up to the challenge to provide logistics, supplies, and whatever else they can in order to fight this crisis.
Meanwhile as many Americans begin to find themselves desperately seeking assistance, Democrat leaders in Congress are showing everyone that they only care about one thing: using this crisis to win back control of the White House and every branch of government.
Conservatives must declare: Not On Our Watch.
Let’s stand together against the obscene tactics of the so-called leaders who are using this as an opportunity to enact a wish-list of policies that they could never get passed without taking political advantage of a global pandemic. Our government needs to act quickly. Conservatives are offering helpful recommendations and warning of harmful “riders.” We ask that you continue to work and stand with us as we help policymakers to develop solutions that offer support to all Americans. We are watching this closely. Please don’t hesitate to offer your thoughts and recommendations. We’ll be sure to pass them along.
