Dear John,
The federal government created a subsidized daycare program, which it claimed would help raise the labour force participation rate of women.
But a new study published by the Fraser Institute today finds that the labour force participation rate of women has not increased.
The total participation rate for women was 61.7% in early 2015, before the program was introduced. By September 2023 it remained virtually unchanged at 61.5%.
Likewise, growth in employment in the childcare sector – another promise included in the government's daycare plan – has not increased.
The federal program failed to achieve its stated goals all while costing taxpayers billions of dollars.
Read the full study here, and be sure to share this one far and wide!
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
The Fraser Institute
