This February -- during a month of love -- I am inviting you to show YOUR love of animals by becoming one of 100 new monthly donors. When you become a new monthly donor before midnight on Valentine's Day, your first six months of donations will be matched by a group of generous World Animal Protection supporters.

Friend, pigs on factory farms are not treated like the intelligent and sentient beings they are. The rising global demand for meat has reduced these poor animals to nothing more than objects that companies abuse to make a profit. The heartbreaking reality is that to maximize revenue, factory farms will subject their animals like pigs, cows and chickens to unimaginable amounts of pain and suffering.

Mother pigs, like the ones pictured here, are caged and forced to produce as many piglets as possible. A mother pig will be impregnated as early as 8 months old. When she is ready to give birth, she will be moved to a farrowing crate which is nothing but bars and a cold concrete floor. Her instinct will be to build a nest, but she is unable to in this harsh environment. When she finally gives birth, the steel bars block her from reaching her babies, denying her the ability to form bonds with her piglets.

When her babies are just three weeks old, they will be forcibly weaned, mutilated and taken away from her. She is returned to another cage to be made pregnant again, and the painful cycle repeats once more. She’ll endure multiple pregnancies throughout her miserable life. This is until her body starts to break down and she is no longer of any use to the factory farming industry.
