The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is hosting an informational webinar about the Wisconsin Specialty Crop Block Grant (SCBG) program this Thursday, February 8, from noon to 1 p.m.

Applications for the SCBG program can be submitted through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

Project awards can range up to $100,000 and no match is required. Projects can vary in scope, focusing on any of the following outcomes:

  • Increase consumption and consumer purchasing of specialty crops.
  • Increase access to specialty crops and expanding specialty crop production and distribution.
  • Increase specialty crop food safety knowledge and practices.
  • Improve specialty crop pest and disease control processes.
  • Develop new seed varieties and specialty crops.
  • Expand specialty crop research and development.
  • Improve environmental sustainability of specialty crops.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines specialty crops as, “fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops (including floriculture).” A more comprehensive list of eligible specialty crops is available at http://www.ams.usda.gov/scbgp.  ​​
