Friend, hours after the first earthquakes struck Syria and Türkiye one year ago today, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff in northwestern Syria began treating patients—and we have not stopped since.
For over a decade, MSF has continued to fill critical gaps in care and aid across Syria.
The region is in the midst of winter, where temperatures frequently drop as low as 41 degrees Fahrenheit. MSF teams are currently working in Idlib province in Syria, and after visiting 23 camps for displaced people, we found that more than 4,400 households need basic supplies to protect themselves from the cold.
As winter wears on, families displaced by earthquakes and violence will need care.
Donations from individuals like you have allowed MSF to go where the needs are greatest and continue to provide lifesaving care for as long as it’s needed—such as our ongoing emergency response here in Syria. Friend, power vital, independent care with a monthly gift today>>
MSF currently provides basic health care through seven mobile clinics at camps for displaced people in Idlib province in Syria. Strong winds and heavy rains destroy the fragile tents where displaced people live. These conditions expose vulnerable people, particularly children and the elderly, to the risks of cold-related diseases, respiratory diseases, infections, and frostbite. In October alone, we distributed winter kits to over 3,800 families which contain thermal insulation, plastic fabric, mattresses, blankets, ground insulation, and winter clothing.
However, there are still thousands of families who need supplies to brace themselves against the bitter cold. That’s why MSF is working diligently to meet the demand for aid.
