Hey John,

Health officials and leaders across the country are calling for substantial and widespread actions to be taken swiftly and immediately to combat the spread of coronavirus.

To stop the spread here in North Texas, local officials have instructed residents to stay home -- requiring that individuals only leave their homes for essential activities, to perform essential government functions or operate essential businesses.

Orders like these are necessary to ensure we flatten the curve of the COVID-19 outbreak and prevent a rapid global pandemic where a significant number of people become sick in a short amount of time. If we overwhelm the capacity of our health care system, there may not be enough beds, doctors and necessary medical equipment to treat those who become infected. We need to take strong measures to ensure that we keep the rate of new cases lower and spread out over a longer period of time.

I know this can be a concerning time, John. Whether you’re worried about the health and safety of you or a loved one -- or the impacts this virus is having on our economy -- I want you to know that you are not alone. We’re all in this together and we can make it out together if we each do the best we can.

For me, I’m continuing to work with my House colleagues on relief plans that will both stabilize our economy and provide immediate resources to keep our families safe and healthy. I will be sure to keep you updated on our work and please feel free to reach out to my campaign if you have any questions.

To find additional information and updates on this matter, please visit the CDC’s COVID-19 website.

We’re going to get through this together.

-Colin
