While the coronavirus outbreak is receiving most of our attention, that doesn't mean we can suddenly stop fighting for other things we care about. In particular, we will continue to advocate that all Americans be treated equally under the law.

Unfortunately, that's not the case for the over 700,000 residents of Washington, D.C., who don't have any representation in Congress despite having a larger population than Vermont and Wyoming.

That's simply unfair. D.C. residents deserve the same opportunities and representation as everyone else, and right now, we need you to fight for them: Will you sign the petition to urgently demand D.C. receive statehood?

For decades, Republicans in Congress have meddled in the heavily Democratic city's affairs to score political points. For instance, Rolling Stone reports that a Georgia representative argued against D.C.'s needle exchange - even though Georgia already funded one. And, because it has no federal representation, D.C. has to rely on the whims of others to receive national resources.

Small, Republican states already have outsized power in the Senate and Electoral College. Winning statehood for D.C. would help rebalance power in favor of progressives. That's yet another reason why we need your help now:

Please, will you sign the petition to urgently demand D.C. receive statehood and refute?
