We wanted to update you on the state of the U.S. Senate race in New Mexico, folks: Martin has four Republican challengers, but Mitch McConnell and his allies have already set their sights on his multi-millionaire, hedge fund executive opponent — who the National Republican Senatorial Committee endorsed as a “strong candidate to flip this seat.” We’ve got to admit that this early support is ringing some alarm bells. Already, McConnell’s hand-picked challenger has thrown $500,000 of her own dollars into this race and started running ads attacking Martin. Meanwhile, she’s publicly shared more about her Wall Street career than her agenda for New Mexico. Our Democratic Senate Majority is hanging by a thread. Now that West Virginia’s seat is almost assured to flip red, Mitch McConnell only needs to win one more seat to take back the Senate — and national Republicans clearly think New Mexico is up for grabs.
