Dear Friend,

I wanted to pass along my latest update on how I'm standing up for Maryland's First  Congressional district, and our country as a whole:

PASSED: H.R. 6976; Protect Our Communities Act from DUIs Act -- H.R. 9676 makes illegal aliens who have been convicted or who have committed an offense while driving impaired deportable. Recent stats show, one person dies in a drunk driving crash every 45 minutes, with 13,384 alcohol impaired driving fatalities in 2021 alone. In the same year, drunk driving crashes led to 388,136 injuries. Criminal aliens can escape accountability for their reckless actions, because there is neither a ground of inadmissibility nor a ground of removability related to DUI. The Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act would change that status.

PASSED: H.R. 6678; Consequences for Social Security Fraud Act -- Criminal aliens are increasingly stealing Americans’ social security numbers (SSNs), with “1.2 million cases in which illegal aliens used [SSNs] that belonged to someone else or were fabricated in 2017 alone.” With record illegal alien releases under the Biden Administration, that number will no doubt soar in the years ahead. The Consequences for Social Security Fraud Act creates a new ground of removability for aliens convicted of committing acts that constitute social security fraud.

PASSED: H.R. 5585; Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act -- During Joe Biden's years in office, there have been 35 straight months in which U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered more than 100,000 illegal aliens along the southwest border. H.R. 5585 imposes criminal penalties on individuals who evade U.S. Border Patrol agents, or other federal, state, or local law enforcement officers.

Despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Americans would agree with these commonsense polices:

-150 Democrats voted AGAINST deporting illegals caught drunk driving.
-154 Democrats voted AGAINST penalizing illegals who evade Border Patrol.
-155 Democrats voted AGAINST deporting illegals who commit Social Security fraud.

District Updates

Orsted Cancels Offshore Wind Lease in Maryland:

Image

Less than a week after we held our offshore wind hearing in Ocean City, Maryland calling for an end to foreign-owned offshore wind industrialization, Orsted announced they were officially withdrawing their proposed contract for an offshore wind farm off our coast. This is welcome news for the watermen and residents who have made it clear they don’t want foreign owned offshore wind companies industrializing our coasts.

It was clear from the beginning that federal regulatory authorities are pursuing their own agenda with offshore wind, but this Country is not made up of federal regulators - it is made up of the American people whose voices are much more powerful than foreign companies.

We must continue to make our voices heard on this important issue.

                         Harford and Cecil County Visit:

Recently, I visited several businesses and communities in Harford and Cecil County and had the opportunity to hear more about important agriculture, medical, and funding issues across our District. Our local and small businesses play a vital role in our economy, and it is essential that their voices are represented in Washington.

In The News

Secretary of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas Impeachment:

Image

After visiting Eagle Pass, TX, a few weeks ago, it has become abundantly clear that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has failed to uphold his duties.

We are in the midst of a historic invasion at our Southern Border. This past December, Border Patrol Agents encountered more than 302,000 illegal migrants crossing our border - a record high.

Yet, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas continues to claim that our Southern Border is "secure."

After years of failed leadership, the House Homeland Security Committee passed two Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his refusal to comply with our country's immigration laws and for breach of trust.

These Articles of Impeachment passed the House Homeland Security Committee on January 31 and will be voted on in the House Floor this week. Rest assured, voting on Articles of Impeachment is a serious responsibility and I will cast my vote on the evidence presented.
