keeping you up to date on all things Northeast Wisconsin The January NEWsflash Friend, Welcome back to the January edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past month. To kick off the new year, my staff and I attended events throughout the district and met with community members to hear about the outstanding work they do. I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance. Semper Fi, National School Choice Week: This month, I celebrated National School Choice Week with a visit to St. John Paul II Chesterton School, which is a part of the GRACE School System. The GRACE system in NEW displays the progress for parents to choose the best educational path for their children. Thank you for hosting me! Sturgeon SPEARing: On January 22, Congressman Grothman, Wisconsin State Rep. Ty Bodden, and I organized a community meeting at Stockbridge High School to provide an update on a potential ESA listing of lake sturgeon and our efforts to save the long-cherished tradition of sturgeon spearing. I also introduced the SPEAR Act, which would proactively exempt Wisconsin from any listing of lake sturgeon under the Endangered Species Act. Honoring Local Veterans: This month, I had the honor of presenting military medals to the family of Captain Raymond Perry Birdsall II in recognition of his service in Germany as Europe rebuilt following the destruction of WWII. During the ceremony, I presented Ray's family with the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, the National Defense Service Medal, the Expert Badge with Carbine Bar, and the Marksman Badge with Pistol Bar. Honoring fellow veterans like Ray is one of the greatest honors of my job. Heading to West Point: On January 26, I attended a school assembly held at Southern Door High School to recognize Thomas Jackson who will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. It was my honor to nominate Thomas and to take part in recognizing him for such a remarkable accomplishment. I could not be more excited to see what his future holds! Annual Updates: I also attended the Wisconsin Associated General Contractor's annual meeting held at Lambueau Field. During the meeting, I provided insight into key issues impacting the U.S. such as cyber security threats, workforce, and the CCP's purchases of land in U.S. Thank you again for having me! Soaring Eagle Scouts: On January 13, a member of my staff attended the eagle scout ceremony for James Tilot of Boy Scout Troop 1040. For his service project, James rebuilt damaged picnic tables on the East River Trail for the Village of Bellevue. Congratulations to James on such a remarkable accomplishment! Congress in the Classroom: Earlier this month, I visited a 4th grade class at Hemlock Creek Elementary School in De Pere to discuss the role of Congress and the three branches of government. Thank you to a student in the class who reached out to me to extend an invitation after his recent trip to Washington, D.C.! Save the Bay: This month, I hosted a Save the Bay meeting with producers, scientists, and other experts to engage in discussion about agriculture, soil health, and water quality. We also discussed best practices to reduce nutrients and sediment leaving farm fields. Other happenings in Northeast Wisconsin last month: Annual Frenzy on the Fox event returns to Green Bay Waupaca County Sheriff's Deputy receives Life-Saving Medal Mulva Center in De Pere opens doors to public Snow totals from NEW's first winter storm of the season REMINDER: If you're experiencing issues with a federal agency, my office is here to help.
