Highlights

Protecting our communities from illegal immigrants who drive drunk

This month, my bill, the Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act, passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 274-150.  If turned into law, this legislation would deport illegal immigrants who have been convicted or committed the offense of driving while drunk or impaired. Every 45 minutes, someone in the United States dies in a crash due to an alcohol-impaired driver. In 2021 alone, there were 13,384 impaired driving fatalities and 400,000 injuries. These kinds of crashes don't discriminate. It could be me, it could be you, or it could be one of our family members.

Ending tyrannical mask mandates

Last week, I introduced the Public Health Emergency Accountability Act. This legislation would demand public health emergencies, which are declared by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to automatically terminate every 90 days and require congressional approval to extend beyond 90 days. I am proud to introduce legislation that prevents the government from abusing its power to force mandates by preventing them from extending a public health emergency without Congressional approval.

The NDAA - another D.C. dish du juor

I recently wrote an op-ed that was published by 1819 News about the 2024 NDAA, which was negotiated by Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, Hakeem Jeffries, and Joe Biden. This new NDAA version does not include a single one of the great conservative priorities negotiated in the House version and allows your tax dollars to subsidize abortions, woke, weaponized, and wasteful programs. Earlier this year, I proudly supported the House version of this legislation, which prioritized military readiness and service member needs. I was disappointed that the latest version of the bill included divisive provisions that tied service personnel and taxpayers to the Democrats' broken policies, and I could not support it.

No border security, no government funding

At the beginning of January, I signed the Immigration Accountability Project's 2024 Border Crisis Member Pledge. The pledge re-enforces my oath that I will not vote to fund the government until our southern border is secure. I will not fund a government that is targeting the American people and allows dangerous criminals, child traffickers, and fentanyl traffickers to pour into our country and endanger American families

Creating competitive markets for our tree nut producers

This month, I introduced the bipartisan Farmers' Market Expansion Act. This legislation would add tree nuts, including shelled tree nuts explicitly, to USDA’s Seniors’ Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). Pecans are an important part of Alabama's agriculture, and I am hopeful this legislation creates competitive markets for our tree nut producers.

Fighting to protect the unborn

I recently received an A+ score rating from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America for my pro-life voting record in Congress.  The Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life Scorecard is intended to highlight legislators' leadership in protecting mothers and newborns from abortion and hold members accountable by documenting their voting records. I will continue fighting to protect the unborn and standing against liberal pro-abortion policies coming out of Washington.

Stopping settlement slush funds

Earlier this month, I voted in support of H.R. 788, the "Stop the Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2023." This legislation would repeal an Obama-era provision that required defendants to pay a part of their settlement monies to liberal activist groups in order to benefit political allies.

Denouncing Biden's open border policies

This month, I voted in favor of H.Res.798, a a resolution sponsored by Rep. Moran (R-TX) denouncing Biden's open border policies and urging him to end these policies. Biden's open border policies have turned our country into a haven for drug and child traffickers, making migrant children indentured servants and putting American families at risk. House Republicans gave Biden the solution back in May when we passed H.R. 2, the strongest border security bill in history, and it's up to him and Majority Leader Schumer to get on board and end this crisis."

Alabama's second congressional district photo contest

So many of you have shared beautiful photos of landmarks, landscapes, and people across our district with me over the years. I want you to have the chance to share those photos with everyone! My office is holding an AL-02 photo contest. Every couple of weeks, we will ask for photos from a county in the Second District to be shared with us via email at [email protected].
