The wheels are falling off Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ sham case against President Trump.
As you well know, Willis has come under fire over serious allegations of misconduct. For starters, Willis allegedly hired a romantic partner, Nathan Wade, as lead special prosecutor in Fulton County’s case against President Trump. According to a court motion filed by Mike Roman, a co-defendant in the case, Wade and Willis financially benefited from the arrangement, including paying for trips across the country.
In a court filing made public on Friday, DA Fani Willis finally admitted to having an affair with Nathan Wade. While this inappropriate relationship certainly raises concerns about Willis’ judgment and impartiality, I’m far more troubled by the potential misuse of taxpayer dollars.
In Fiscal Year 2022 alone, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office received over $3,875,000 in federal funds from the Department of Justice, appropriated by Congress.
On numerous occasions, Nathan Wade was compensated at taxpayer expense for alarming services — including meetings with the White House and 24 hours of billable work in a single day. If these allegations are true, Wade is likely in violation of Georgia’s fraudulent documents and false statements statute, and both Willis and Wade potentially violated Georgia’s Rule of Professional Conduct as attorneys.
Additionally, recent leaked recordings reveal that DA Willis was confronted in 2021 by a staffer, Amanda Timpson, regarding the misuse of a federal grant specifically intended for the creation of a Center of Youth Empowerment and Gang Prevention facility. While the center has yet to open, the grant has been used to purchase $1,245 in items from Dell Computer Corporation. Notably, Fani Willis later fired this staffer after the confrontation.
Fani Willis’ alleged pattern of misconduct, corruption, and abuse of federal funds should concern every Georgian — and American.
In order to uncover the truth and deliver accountability, I recently led nearly 30 of my House Republican colleagues in urging Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and Governor Brian Kemp to swiftly and thoroughly investigate these alarming allegations.Â
Thankfully, it is Georgia State Senate Republicans who are taking action.
Just last week, Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones approved and announced a special committee to investigate DA Fani Willis. This important development, which provides the committee with subpoena power, brings us one step closer to accountability.
Please know that I will continue calling for oversight of and accountability for Fani Willis’ alleged abuse of your tax dollars in her political persecution plot against President Trump.Â
