Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) issued a warning, stating that U.S. troops might be deployed to eastern Europe "in a few years" if the Senate fails to pass a border bill allocating $60 billion in aid to Ukraine. Schumer emphasized the critical nature of the situation, asserting that history would judge America's actions at this turning point.
He argued that failing to assist Ukraine could lead to Russian aggression and a potential conflict involving U.S. troops in eastern Europe. Schumer echoed concerns previously expressed by President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin about the possibility of American soldiers engaging with Russian forces if aid to Ukraine is not increased.
The Senate Majority Leader also linked the bill to other global issues, including the Israeli-Hamas conflict and the situation on the U.S. border, emphasizing the need for humanitarian aid and portraying the bill as pivotal for America's response to various challenges. Schumer credited Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) but criticized Republicans, alleging fear of former President Donald Trump and warning of worsening global situations if the bill is not passed.
