Last week, John, a nominee to the Social Security Advisory Board admitted under testimony that he wanted Social Security benefits cut.
Social Security Works members sent hundreds of calls and signed thousands of petitions, but this nominee, who the New York Times described as "a zealous advocate of privatizing Social Security" still hasn't withdrawn his nomination.
We need to keep up the pressure! Senators including Finance committee chairman Ron Wyden and Sherrod Brown have already publicly opposed this nomination. But we need the rest!
Can you sign our urgent petition to keep Social Security privatizer Andrew Biggs off the Advisory Board?
Thank you,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
P.S. Alex's email from last week is below, in case you need a refresher on this dangerous nominee.
-- ALEX'S EMAIL --
John,
All week, we’ve been talking to Senate offices about Andrew Biggs, Mitch McConnell’s anti-Social Security pick to serve back-to-back terms on the Social Security Advisory Board (SSAB).
We’ve driven hundreds of calls to offices of the Senate Finance Committee, which is the first hurdle for any nomination to the SSAB. Those Senators have noticed―but we need to show broader opposition.
Can you sign our urgent petition to show that you OPPOSE putting a man the New York Times described as “a zealous advocate of privatizing Social Security” on the Social Security Advisory Board? Add your name now >>
The Board advises the President, Congress, and the Commissioner of Social Security on policy. But Andrew Biggs has a dangerous history of seeking to dismantle the program.
As a reminder, Andrew Biggs:
-
Was instrumental in the Bush admin’s 2005 attempt to privatize Social Security
-
Advocated for raising the retirement age in 2013
-
Supports means-testing Social Security
-
Has dismissed the looming retirement income crisis as a “non issue”
-
And supported Donald Trump’s move to unilaterally defund Social Security
At his confirmation hearing this week, Biggs admitted under questioning that he would prefer to see seniors’ benefits cut to making the rich pay their fair share.
This is the man Mitch McConnell wants on the board just as his House counterpart, Speaker Mike Johnson, tries to force through a closed-door commission that would be empowered to slash our earned benefits. We cannot allow that to happen.
Social Security Works is mobilizing to block this dangerous nomination. Can you sign our urgent petition to keep this Social Security privatizer off the Advisory Board?
Thank you,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
