Hello Financial Education Network! It feels like January flew by and we aren't slowing down in February! As a reminder, please share with us any highlights, updates, or events you would like to share with the more than 22,000 members of this distribution list. When you have something you'd like to share with the network via this monthly email update - please send it to [email protected] with the subject line "Proposed WFEN content." Additionally, if you’re not already following DFI’s social media accounts, please do! We’re working to grow our networks in addition to promoting your great work.
Did you know DFI has a Financial Education Calendar? For several years, DFI has provided a statewide financial education calendar for all of our financial education partners to share their public courses/events with consumers throughout the state. Participation has consistently fallen – to the point we now have only one submitter. The software for this is fairly expensive, and we are unable to justify the expense with a single participant. We have to decide whether to renew by the end of March. If we don’t see an increase in use – we’ll be cancelling the service. If you would like DFI to continue offering this service, it’s free for your organizations to share your workshop/class information here. If you have a multiple workshops or classes to submit – a month at a time, for example - please contact DFI’s Web Designer Jeremy Lushene at [email protected]. We need your name, email, contact #, event title, event location, date, time, duration, whether it repeats, if there is a cost/fee to attend, whether registration is required, a web page for more information if there is one, and event description. FEPPP's Book of the Month and Black History Month Books to Read FEPPP's Book of the Month for February is, "A Bike Like Sergio's." This book is about a boy named Ruben whose loving and supportive family struggles to pay their bills, so getting a new bike for his birthday seemed out of the question for Ruben. When Ruben was in the grocery store, he sees money fall out of a women's purse. Thinking it is just one dollar Ruben picks it up and puts it in his pocket. He later discovers that it is a hundred-dollar bill. Should he keep it and buy a bike, or return it to the person that dropped it? Link here to learn more about the Book of the Month.
