Dear John,

How safe is the water from your tap? For many, not safe at all. Millions of homes still have outdated, harmful lead service lines. This means the water in their cups, pots and toothbrushes could be contaminated by health-harming lead.

For years we’ve urged the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) for a comprehensive solution – and we’re pleased to see that they listened! EPA just released a new proposal to eliminate lead service lines, with the vast majority by 2037. But to make this plan a reality and have the biggest impact it needs to hear from you. Raise your voice by submitting a public comment today and help begin to chart a path towards a lead-free future!

We know that there’s no safe level of exposure to lead. The latest science shows that even the smallest trace can impact our children’s brain development, leading to learning and behavioral problems and even lower IQs.

But that’s not all. Adults who are exposed to lead can suffer from a number of health hazards too — including: Higher blood pressure, decreased kidney function and reproductive health problems.

The impacts on our health say it all. Lead exposure is an unacceptable risk. That’s why we need the EPA to take action and get the lead out of our pipes! And their latest proposal will do just that. If the proposal is approved, the EPA will:

Replace 100% of lead pipes for the vast majority of water systems by 2037 and strictly limit partial replacements.

Prioritize replacements for those that are disproportionately impacted by lead.

Require water systems to communicate more frequently and proactively with consumers about lead service lines and the system’s plans for replacing the lines at the lowest cost.

Lead-contaminated water has been a threat for generations. But it doesn’t have to be, and the EPA’s plan is a big step in the right direction to make America’s drinking water safer.

Show your support for a commonsense solution to fix America’s lead pipe problem. Submit a public comment urging the EPA to take every step possible to make our drinking water safe!
