JOHN,
I wanted to send you a personal note as I reflect on Black History Month. Today, I’m thinking about the countless contributions Black Americans have made to our state and nation throughout history.
Michigan has had a fruitful civil rights history with leaders such Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. giving his first delivery of "I Have a Dream Speech" in Detroit.
We're also home to Motown legends like Aretha Franklin, who changed the industry by demanding "Respect," and Diana Ross making a statement with "I'm Coming Out."
But these highlights of Michigan's history does not mean our work is done, it means that we must recommit ourselves to the fight against injustice and inequalities.
We must do more than honor the legacies Black Americans have on our culture and democracy. It's also a time to reflect on our past and present, so we can build a better and equal future.
That's why I'm asking if you'll make a contribution to the Detroit Branch NAACP so we can continue the work of making a more inclusive democracy. [[link removed]]

In solidarity,

Our race was the third closest House race in the country – and political pundits are already predicting this cycle could be just as close.
Democrats cannot take back the House majority without flipping MI-10 blue, and we know Carl will once again be a top target for national Republicans.
