John,
Can you imagine suffering for 16 years from noise and air pollution from coal mining? Now picture being told the giant pit in your backyard won’t be cleaned up, and your community will be left with the £120 million clean-up bill?
This is what the mining giant Merthyr (South Wales) Ltd has planned for local Welsh residents -- and the authorities are in on it -- but we won’t let them get away, and have a plan to make them pay!
If thousands of us put our weight behind the local residents, there's no way the government can evade responsibility. We will bring your signatures directly to the council. Let's make this huge!
Tell the Merthyr County Borough Council and Welsh Government: Make this company pay up and restore nature for this community.
The Ffos-y-fran coal mine is the largest opencast mine in the UK, and it looks like a giant crater with lots of holes from years of digging -- and the responsible authorities just want to leave it like that.
Local residents, Chris and Alyson Austin say “We have been betrayed by the government departments that are there to protect and support us. We are sickened by this whole affair, and we call on the Welsh Government to stand up and sort out this sorry mess now; once and for all.”
The Ekō-Community has the power to make the authorities pay up. We have already succeeded in blocking the funding for the Adani mine in Australia. Today, we can join the local residents in Wales and support their resistance and refusal to accept this shameless act of profit greed on the backs of people and the environment.
Tell the local government to deliver the original restoration deal promised to residents in 2007!
