Friend – I truly cannot understate just how big of a deal this comment period that the EPA is holding is. Although this policy isn’t perfect, it is the most significant step the nation has ever taken to address water contamination caused by lead. And the only reason it’s this strong is because of the widespread public support for ending lead poisoning once and for all.

Time is running out – send your message to the EPA now: [link removed]

Hi Friend --

I’ve got some really exciting news. For the first time in our history, getting the lead out of our drinking water is within our reach.

President Biden and the EPA are calling for the replacement of all lead service lines in the next 10 years. Just think, so many of us could see the elimination of a major source of lead poisoning for children in our lifetime!

This change is long overdue. No level of lead in drinking water is safe. Even low levels of lead can cause permanent brain damage in children.

We are thrilled to see this problem finally getting the attention it deserves – but the EPA’s policy still leaves some gaps that will put kids in harm’s way.

The EPA is taking public input on their proposal right now . Public comments are incredibly influential. The more people who are in on this, the better chance we have to get all of our demands heard. Please send a message now to the EPA calling for important fixes to its new lead service line rule: [link removed]

The effort to replace lead service lines has dragged on for too long, as utility companies and local governments pass the buck year after year. Meanwhile, families are still drinking and cooking with lead-contaminated water.

No child should be robbed of their future due to lead poisoning. But children, especially children of color, are facing life-long impacts from lead contamination including brain damage.

There is widespread support for addressing this issue, so now is the time to push hard for the EPA to fix some serious problems with its proposal: [link removed]

Here’s what we are calling for:
* Requiring schools and childcare centers to test and replace fountains, faucets, and plumbing where lead is present.
* Requiring water systems – not impacted communities – to pay the full costs of removing the entire lead service line.
* Not allowing some water systems to get extensions well beyond 10 years to replace their lead pipes–in fact, possibly from 40-50 years.

Even with its faults, this policy will be the biggest step to address lead contamination in water in the nation’s history. And the only reason it’s this strong is because of the widespread public support for ending lead poisoning once and for all.

The federal government is listening – if we all raise our voices again, we can demand that the EPA fix these flaws in its policy so that no one is left behind. Please, tell the EPA to move forward with the strongest lead rule possible: [link removed]

Thanks for being part of this!
