Did you see Joaquin’s comments in response to the “Take Back Our Border Rally” in Texas this week?
Joaquin joined his Texas colleagues to call for an end to the dangerous fearmongering Greg Abbott and his extreme colleagues continue to use to describe the state of our Southern Border.
Let’s be clear: Hate and extremism — of any kind — have no place in Texas.
We know that language accusing immigrants for invading the U.S. and replacing citizens are white supremacist talking points. And yet, Abbott takes pride in mainstreaming their use knowing full well words like his have led to deadly violence — like the 23 deaths we saw at an El Paso Walmart in 2019.
Here’s the bottom line: This extreme rhetoric is encouraging a standoff at the Southern Border to win attention in media and political points with their base.
The risk to public safety is real. Any escalation by these right-wing extremists could easily become deadly for asylum-seekers, Border Patrol agents, and innocent people who could get caught in the crossfire.
