I hope you’re staying safe and healthy, John.

As we continue to adapt to our current reality, it’s imperative that we check on our neighbors and friends. Now more than ever, we must look out for one another. And, certainly, Carolyn has exemplified what it looks like to step up.

In an editorial, Carolyn implored D.C. politicians to step up their emergency preparedness. We moved our campaign operations online and our whole team is reaching out to our devoted volunteers to ensure that they’re safe and healthy. And yesterday, we emailed you a list of ways (here are more!) that you can join us in stepping up for Southwest Washingtonians.

The fact is, John, we’ll get through this -- and stronger than ever -- if we all step up and work together. In this spirit, I wanted to pass along additional guidelines to help us collectively ensure the well-being of our community here in Washington’s Third:

Donate any personal protective equipment (PPE) -- including masks, gloves, and face shields -- sanitation supplies, or lab testing supplies to a local hospital. To arrange for a donation drop-off, email [email protected].
Reach out to neighbors and friends with special needs -- those who may need your help.
Connect with your community online or over the phone.
If you know someone affected by the outbreak, call them to see how they are doing.
Consider an act of kindness for those who are in quarantine, such as having a meal delivered.
Remember: An infectious disease is not connected to any racial or ethnic group. Speak up in kindness if you hear false rumors or negative stereotypes that foster racism and xenophobia.
I know that everyone on Team Long is thinking of our community here in Washington’s Third during this time. John, you can always reach our team by responding directly to this email or at (360) 605-0151.

Be well,

-- Abby Olmstead
