Greetings!
In our last newsletter, we
announced Allen Smith’s campaign for Congress in the District 9
special election. Please consider donating to his campaign and
volunteering at https://www.allenforcongress.com/. Allen is an outstanding candidate and will
carry the Green Party message throughout his campaign.
This week we want to highlight the
NC Green Party’s endorsement of Joshua Bradley for Raleigh City
Council District A. This is a nonpartisan race, but Joshua is carrying
the banner of the Socialist Party USA and the NCGP. Josh is a dual
member of both organizations. NCGP members and supporters in the
Triangle area, please donate to his campaign and volunteer. Josh and
the campaign will need canvassers and poll workers, among other
volunteers. Josh’s website is at jbradleyforraleighworkers.org.
Greens across the US are saddened
to learn of the death of Bruce Dixon of the Georgia Green Party in
late June. A former Black Panther, editor and contributor at the
Black Agenda
Report, and longtime
fighter for economic and social justice, Bruce’s contributions to the
party and his political analysis and clarity will be missed. More
about Bruce can be found at https://www.gp.org/bruce_dixon.
All of our regional chapters are
actively engaging the public at events and meetings. We encourage all
members and supporters to keep up with notices posted on our state
party Facebook page and on our state and regional Facebook groups at
https://www.facebook.com/pg/officialncgp/groups.
Western NC Greens:
Greens in Buncombe County are working with other organizations to
resist the negative impacts of unbridled tourism and accompanying
development. In September, Western NC Greens will celebrate their
third anniversary with a fundraising event, location and time to be
announced. Keep up with Western NC Greens at https://www.facebook.com/wncgp/.
Charlotte Greens:
Charlotte Greens are actively engaged in campaigning for Allen Smith,
the NCGP candidate for Congress in the District 9 special election.
Allen needs campaign volunteers and donations. Please visit Allen’s
campaign page at https://www.allenforcongress.com/home. Charlotte Greens will also be at Charlotte Pride August 17–18 in downtown Charlotte. If you
are a Green in Mecklenburg or surrounding counties, please contact
[email protected] to volunteer for a shift at Charlotte
Pride.
IMPORTANT! If you
are not a member of the NCGP or if your membership has expired, please
Join or Renew Your
Membership. Your dues
ensure that we remain
financially independent of the
capitalist money sources that compromise and corrupt our political
system. As a dues-paying Member of the NCGP, you have a say in the
running and operating of our party, a party that is literally for and
by the people. We believe social and political change will come when
working people determine that movement activism must also include this
critical element: building our own political power
outside the confines of the capitalist two-party system. This model allows us to keep our
commitment to building true independent electoral power that
represents people and planet, not profit.
One of the aspects of that
commitment is political education. To this end, the first 100 people
who join or renew their NCGP membership will receive a FREE ebook copy
of either The Democrats: A Critical History
by Lance Selfa or
Ecosocialism: A Radical Alternative to Capitalist
Catastrophe by Michael
Löwy. Join us and get a free copy of the ebook of your
choice.

Ecosocialism: A Radical
Alternative to Capitalist Catastrophe by Michael Löwy
Capitalism is killing the planet, and the preservation of a
natural environment favorable to human life requires a radical
alternative. In this new collection of essays, longtime revolutionary
and environmental activist Michael Löwy offers a vision of
ecosocialist transformation. This vision combines an understanding of
the destructive logic of the capitalist system with an appreciation
for ongoing struggles, particularly in Latin America. (from

The Democrats: A Critical
History by Lance
Selfa
Offering a broad historical perspective, Selfa shows how the
Democratic Party has time and again betrayed the aspirations of
ordinary people while pursuing an agenda favorable to Wall Street and
US imperial ambitions. Selfa examines the relationship between party
leaders and social movements, from the civil rights struggle to the
movement to end the Iraq war; reveals the unhappy marriage between
U.S. labor and the “party of the people;” and assesses the mixed
record of attempts to build a third party alternative. (from
publisher Haymarket Books)
