LGBTQ+ Stories You Should Know About
Celebrating Future Black History Makers
Today – and all year – we’ll be celebrating the amazing Black LGBTQ+ leaders who are on the ballot. Today, there are barely 140 out LGBTQ+ Black officials in the entire country. Black people and LGBTQ+ people continue to feel the consequences of this underrepresentation in policies and legislation that target our communities.
The current representation gap needs to be closed. That’s why Victory Fund’s Black Leaders Caucus [[link removed]] is working to recruit more Black LGBTQ+ candidates – and ensure they have the resources and support to win. Learn more about the work of the Black Leaders Caucus here! [[link removed]]
You can also learn more about our Black endorsed candidates here [[link removed]] . Some of them – like Satana Deberry, who is running for North Carolina Attorney General [[link removed]] , and Lauren Simmons, running for the Texas state House [[link removed]] – are on the ballot on March 5th!

Malcolm Kenyatta Faces Down Anti-LGBTQ Opponent
Last week, it was revealed that Spotlight candidate Malcolm Kenyatta’s opponent, Democratic ward leader Lewis Nash Sr. was caught on tape making transphobic and anti-choice comments. Nash also went on to “expressed concern about teachers telling children “They got two mommies” and that people should not “vote for a president that’s going to [support] the mutilation of kids.” [[link removed]]
Nash is attempting to run for Malcolm’s state house seat, while also running for Auditor General. As Malcolm stated, “Those hateful comments have no place in the Democratic Party.” [[link removed]] We couldn’t agree with him more.
