Dear Friend,
What a week!
We took the critical work of Equality Virginia to the General Assembly every day this week, where we successfully stopped three anti-transgender bills and advanced three pro-LGBTQ+ bills. While there is still a lot of session left, you can get engaged by checking out our General Assembly Toolkit for Week 5 [[link removed]] (it’s going to be a busy one!) or joining us at an upcoming Lobby Day on February 12th [[link removed]] or February 26th. [[link removed]] We’re looking forward to partnering with Marijuana Justice, Southeastern Transgender Resource Center, and Minority AIDS Support Services for the February dates.
This week also marks my two-year anniversary as Executive Director of Equality Virginia. As I reflect, I'm more certain than ever that the work we do is absolutely crucial. I’m uniquely aware that our organization’s role in this movement is to lead with boldness and create a vision for a commonwealth where we all have the safety to thrive as our authentic selves. I’m humbled by the immense honor to carry this fight forward with joy, kindness and resilience.
But I don’t do this work alone. None of this work would be possible without the work of our BRILLIANT staff, so I want to give a huge shout-out to Ariana, Addison, Kyleigh and Ilana. Your work is moving the needle forward, and I’m proud to fight alongside you every day.
It’s hard to believe that it’s already February. As we head further into the new year and prepare for the work that lies ahead, let's carry the spirit of grace and resolve with us. I hope you understand that we do this work for you and that every effort, big and small, moves us one step closer to a Virginia we are all proud to call home.
With gratitude,
Narissa Rahaman
