Dear Neighbors,

I hope you and your loved ones are enjoying a happy and healthy start to 2024! In addition to getting new bills ready for our fast-approaching legislative session starting February 12th, I?ve been busy in our community meeting with advocates, leaders, and residents to identify how we can build on our historic accomplishments from last year to address the unique challenges and opportunities facing Minnesotans. I?ve enjoyed meeting with you all.

Here is an update from Saint Paul.

Listening Session on February 6th

Many people have reached out to me in recent months with concerns about the proposal to renovate and expand the Anoka County Jail in downtown Anoka.? With discussions between the city of Anoka and Anoka County heating up, Council Member Erik Skogquist and I thought it would be a good idea to spend some time listening to folks in the community.? If you?ve got time on Tuesday night, I hope you?ll join us!

EV Vehicle Rebates

Last session, I authored legislation for an Electric Vehicle Rebate Program, allowing residents to receive a rebate of up to $2,500 for a new EV purchase and $600 for a used purchase. Electric cars, plug-ins, or hybrids purchased or leased on or after May 25, 2023 are eligible. Applications go live on February 7th, and you can find more information at [link removed].

2024 Legislative Survey

What do you think the legislature should prioritize in the 2024 session? I will be mailing out a version of my legislative survey which you can fill out and send back to me. If you would prefer a digital copy, click here [ [link removed] ]. Hearing from you helps me do my job better!?

Cold Weather Rule?

While we?ve seen the recent frigid weather warm up in the last few days, I still want to include a quick reminder about Minnesota?s ?cold weather rule? now in effect, which protects residents from having their electric or natural gas service shut off between October 1 and April 30.

To ensure your service is safe from disconnection, you must make and keep a payment plan agreed to by your utility provider. More information is available on the Minnesota Department of Commerce?s website [ [link removed] ].
