Hi John,
Are you concerned about the migration crisis at our southern border? You’re not alone. At a time where a lot of Americans are still understandably worried about their jobs and the cost of living, polling shows immigration has nonetheless jumped to the top of the list of the most important issues to American voters.
Looking at the numbers, it’s easy to see why. Since 2021, unauthorized crossings across the southern border are up over 42 percent, totaling nearly 2.5 million in 2023 alone. That’s along with a shocking 141 percent increase in suspected gang members and terror suspects caught at the southern border. And the number of migrants claiming asylum has skyrocketed over that time as well, with our under-resourced immigration courts now facing a backlog of more than two million asylum cases.
But typical partisan politics in Washington are preventing us from solving a problem we all recognize. A pending bipartisan Senate bill – which would tie border security measures with aid for Ukraine and Israel – is “dead on arrival” in the House, according to Republican Speaker Mike Johnson.
Former President Trump is playing politics with this issue, telling Republicans that securing the border now “would be another Gift to the Radical Left Democrats.” While Trump wants the problem to fester, President Biden spent far too long pretending there was no problem. Just this week, President Biden claimed, “I’ve done all I can do” to secure the border, despite rolling back several Trump-era measures to limit illegal migration.
This is where No Labels stands apart. While others are entrenched in blame games, we're focused on solutions and giving a voice to the commonsense majority.
We’re continuing to support and encourage House and Senate members with the courage to try to solve our border and immigration problems. And we’re continuing to make progress in our effort to give Americans another choice in the presidential election.
Just this week, we secured ballot access in Maryland, making it the 15th state where voters will have the real choice that they deserve in the 2024 election should No Labels choose to offer our ballot line to a Unity ticket.
No Labels is committed to ensuring voters have this choice, countering the narrative that independent voices should be sidelined. We’re not going to stop fighting to restore common sense to American politics. And we’re grateful for your support in that fight, every step of the way.
Margaret
