John, We’ve seen numerous security threats to our elections over the past few years. Now we can add AI to that list. In the days leading up to the New Hampshire primary, a robocall with an AI voice impersonating President Joe Biden reached out to New Hampshire residents and advised them against voting in the primary. The voice message told voters to “save” their vote for the November general election and claimed that “voting this Tuesday only enables the Republicans in their quest to elect Donald Trump again.” Attempting to suppress and disenfranchise voters supporting a particular candidate or ballot measure represents a serious threat to our elections, one that cannot be ignored. Tell the Department of Justice: Investigate AI-Enabled Voter Suppression in New Hampshire. AI interference won’t be limited to New Hampshire. We’ve already seen politicians become the target of deepfake videos and other media designed to spread disinformation. For Congress to draft and pass any effective regulation of artificial intelligence, the Department of Justice must explore how AI can and has corrupted our democracy. Sign the petition urging the DOJ to investigate AI-enabled voter suppression. In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
