John,
On Thursday, February 8, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Trump v. Anderson, the appeal of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling kicking Donald Trump off the ballot under the 14th amendment.
This week, Free Speech For People (FSFP), which is leading additional state level court cases in Illinois and Massachusetts to disqualify Trump, just filed an amicus brief in the Supreme Court case too.
While our friends at FSFP work to disqualify Trump in the courts, we’re not sitting back and waiting for a decision either. Working with our allies, we’ve sent 200,235 direct messages calling on Secretaries of State and local election officials to join Colorado and disqualify Trump immediately.
Your voices are having an impact. Before she followed Colorado’s lead, Maine’s Secretary of State Shenna Bellows had received 12,337 messages from our campaigns and according to the New York Times, Trump’s qualifications for running are now being considered in 35 states.
But it will take more than just public pressure to compel most election officials to act decisively. That's why these lawsuits are so critical and it’s why we must support our friends at FSFP who, along with our partners at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, are leading the way in the legal battles.
Please make a donation to support both FSFP and DFA as we work to disqualify Trump and safeguard our democracy. Your contribution is vital to continue these crucial legal battles and advocacy efforts.
Let’s be clear: We all know Donald Trump's conduct surrounding the January 6 insurrection blatantly violated his oath of office. He incited a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol, endangered the lives of the Vice President and congressional leaders, and disrupted the peaceful transfer of power. Finally, after hours of inaction, he then posted a video providing aid and comfort to the insurrectionists, telling them they were loved.
In addition to the day of Jan. 6, in a recorded phone call on January 2, 2021, he urged Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find 11,780 votes," the exact number needed to reverse his defeat in the state. From state courts, like Georgia, to the federal courts, in D.C. and Florida, Trump faces dozens of charges directly related to his many strategies to illegally overturn the 2020 election.
These are dire threats to our republic and the principles it stands for and that’s what makes our activism and the legal actions of Free Speech For People (FSFP) not just necessary, but imperative.
By challenging Trump's eligibility for office based on these actions, FSFP is actively defending the rule of law and the democratic ideals that form the bedrock of our society, but to continue this fight, FSFP urgently needs your support.
Make a stand against those who threaten our constitutional values by making a split donation between FSFP and DFA to fund this crucial fight to disqualify Trump.
Let’s keep fighting to uphold our constitutional safeguards.
