John,
A health expert is warning us that Georgia could reach the “point of no return” if Gov. Kemp doesn’t take more decisive action on the COVID-19 epidemic.
Dr. Carlos Del Rio chairs the global health department at Emory University and is an expert in pandemics. And he warned on a recent Facebook Live Q&A session that, “we are in a critical time to make interventions and to try to contain the spread.”
Del Rio is calling on Georgia Gov. Kemp to follow the lead of other state governors and enact a statewide quarantine. He says this is our best shot to “prevent a catastrophe in the healthcare system.”
Kemp has taken some steps in the right direction by ordering the closure of all bars and nightclubs. But with more than 25 COVID-19 deaths in Georgia already, I feel Gov. Kemp would be remiss to not strongly consider the advice of a stronger response from experts like Dr. Del Rio.
Regardless of what the state government decides to do, we can all do our part to prevent the spread of this pandemic. From washing your hands regularly, to only leaving your home for essential tasks, to keeping your distance from others (at least 6 feet) when out and about, we can all make a difference.
I’m continually monitoring the situation, and more news to follow.
In solidarity,
Hank
