Dear John,
Legislating and delivering results is about compromise. This week the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a tax bill. During negotiations, the ask from Democrats in Congress was prioritizing a child tax credit to help working families make ends meet. Republicans, on the other hand, demanded tax breaks for big business — the same businesses that barely pay taxes as it is.
I did not love this vote and I wish we could have done more, but I knew it would help 25,000 children in my district and 119,000 children across the state of Connecticut. This bill was a perfect example of where the priorities of the two parties lie. Democrats are for the people and Republicans are for corporate special interests. We must continue to fight for an expanded child tax credit, which lifted 50% of children out of poverty.
I will continue to advocate for policies that help working people, but I need your help to stay in Congress so we can put families and children first. Will you make a donation today so I can continue my fight?
