Dear Friends,

We’re coming off of an incredible 2-day summit ([link removed]) in DC where we had record turnout and incredible affirmation and inspiration for our work!

But as we’ve said before: our work comes with both victories and challenges. We know the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) could reschedule marijuana at any time. We believe any scheduling change is wrong. Regardless of what decision may occur, we want to be clear: this does not mean marijuana is legalized. But, if implemented, moving marijuana to Schedule III would give Big Marijuana billions in tax write-offs as well as continue the normalization of high-potency THC drugs in the public eye.

This is why we must stand today and make our voices heard. There are several ways we are doing this, and we need your help:
* We need you to write your Representatives and the President to tell them this is a bad idea. CLICK HERE to add your voice to this conversation ([link removed]) . ([link removed])
* Donate ([link removed]) to SAM for our Rescheduling Legal Fund – we are determined to take legal action on several grounds (see below).
* When DEA submits its decision for public comment as a part of the rulemaking process, use these talking points ([link removed]) to tell them why this is the wrong course. We will send that link when it becomes available.

We believe any decision to reschedule is not only wrong on the facts, but is a violation of international law. The United States is party to the Single Convention on Drugs – an international, binding law that requires the U.S. to keep marijuana in Schedule 1 or 2. This factor would likely trigger multiple legal challenges.

It is clear the FDA/HHS process ([link removed]) was politically compromised. While we disagree with any move to reschedule marijuana on the grounds of both science and legal process, this is only the beginning. The DEA’s decision must go through the rulemaking process, where public input is required.

This will be a long fight. It is just the beginning.

If you want to elevate the volume of our fight further, please consider donating ([link removed]) to help us fund expensive legal action and other efforts to amplify your voices.

We’re just getting started in this fight - buckle up and join us!

Onward,

Kevin, Luke, and the SAM Team
