[link removed] [[link removed]] February is Black History Month, Community.
Black history in San Diego started nearly 200 years ago, further back than California history.
Despite their storied past, Black San Diegans have had to fight for their right to thrive in our Community time and time again — struggling for freedom, equality, and well-deserved recognition.
Undeterred by these struggles, San Diego has become a beacon of Black culture and entrepreneurship, speaking to the ongoing progress of history-makers here in our Community.
Let’s take this month to help those making that history. Here’s a list of Black-owned businesses close to home we can support → [[link removed]]

Spanning from 1820 with Don Pio Pico, a Black elected official who served as the last Governor of Mexican Alta California, to the pioneering America Newton, who helped found San Diego a century later, to today’s entrepreneurs and community leaders, the history of Black San Diegans is deeply rich — and it remains ongoing today.
Just 3 months ago, San Diegans rallied to elect Monica to the Board of Supervisors, making her the first Black woman to be elected Supervisor in the history of San Diego County.
Help us continue to make history here in our Community. Use February to support Black-owned businesses right here in San Diego in celebration of all the progress we have achieved, and all that is to come → [[link removed]]
