Dear John,

We were back in for another legislative session in DC this week – and a productive one at that!

On Wednesday, we passed a bipartisan tax reform package that will cut taxes for families and small businesses. Our bill will expand the Child Tax Credit and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, incentivize domestic research and development and lower costs for small businesses.

Analysis by the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee estimates that the expanded Child Tax Credit would benefit nearly 200,000 children in Minnesota in its first year alone, including 14,000 in our Second Congressional District.

I’m proud to have worked across the aisle to pass this legislation that will continue to lower costs for working families in America and I will continue to work on a bipartisan basis to bring savings back to Minnesotans.

I also wanted to update you on another issue I’ve been focused on – working to secure our southern border.

We need to humanely secure the southern border and reform our immigration system – and if we’ve learned anything this Congress, we’ve learned that progress can only happen if it’s done on a bipartisan basis.

We need to increase funding for Customs and Border Patrol, expedite processing of asylum cases, hire more immigration judges and stop the flow of illicit fentanyl into the United States.

I’m urging Speaker Johnson to bring a border security package to the House Floor that can earn the support of both Republicans and Democrats.

It’s time to drop the partisan politics and find a way to negotiate in good faith to solve this critical issue immediately.

Here's what else I was up to this week:

Honoring Minnesota law enforcement officials
In January, Minnesota law enforcement executed the largest seizure of illicit fentanyl in state history.

On Tuesday, I spoke on the House Floor to recognize the hard work local law enforcement officials in Dakota, Ramsey and Washington Counties are putting in to fight the fentanyl crisis.

I am laser-focused on keeping our communities safe, especially from the threat of drugs like fentanyl. I’ll keep working with both parties to make progress.

Lowering health care costs for Americans
On the Energy and Commerce Committee this week, we held a hearing on ways to lower health care costs and ensure that all Americans can access the affordable and reliable health care they need.

I wrote the bill to cap the cost of insulin at $35/month and helped pass the law to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, and I’ll keep working to make health care more affordable.

Ensuring all Minnesotans are able to access electric power and broadband
I met with Minnesota Rural Electric Association this week to discuss how we can continue to work together to ensure all Minnesotans have affordable and reliable access to electricity and rural broadband.

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

Every week, I check in with my entire team – both in Minnesota and DC – to plan for the week ahead and brainstorm new ways to make Minnesota a better place to live and do business.

Here’s a little moment from our meeting this week!

I’m looking forward to another busy week in DC and I’ll keep working to bring bipartisan results back to Minnesota!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time,
