Tuesday was #WorldNTDDay, an annual event to raise awareness and demand action for the control and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Orbis treats a neglected tropical disease called trachoma. Trachoma is a painful bacterial eye infection and a major focus of our work globally.
In 2023, our teams in Ethiopia delivered 8.8 million doses of sight-saving antibiotics across Central, Southern, Southwestern, and Sidama regions – taking the total delivered by Orbis teams to more than 100 million doses. We also conducted nearly 50,000 surgeries, to reverse the eyelid and prevent irreversible blindness for those whose infection has turned into trichiasis.
