When you see someone like Donald Trump bragging about how profitable they are, what they are actually bragging about is how much lower they pay their workers than what those workers deserve.
What we should actually be bragging about are the people that have made record wages for the working class possible. The union leaders, workers, and everyday people that are standing up and knocking on their neighbors doors to demand a better world, and saying:
“We’re not going to accept being priced out of our home.”
“We’re not going to accept bad health insurance.”
“We’re not going to accept not being able to afford to live because our job isn’t paying us enough.”
“This is what we’re going to accept, and we’re not going to accept less.”
And when we come together to say that, then these massive corporations that are making record profits and delivering those in record compensations to CEO’s — that are not working the backbreaking jobs that the bartenders, the cleaners, and all these workers that actually make these companies possible — when we rebalance those wages and shift them back to everyday people, then we actually restore the American dream.
Because this isn’t just about a job — this is about who we are as a society.
